Travel:Czech Republic-Brno

Like every year September is reserved for travel. Last year, we planned to visit Krakow-Poland, but the trip was canceled at the last minute. So Krakow was on our travel list for this year. The first stop on our journey was Brno.

Brno is the second largest city in the Czech Republic.
Kostel J. A. Komenského - Jan Amos Comenius Church.
This evangelical church is nicknamed the Red Church-Červený kostel after the bricks used to build it.
Kapucínské náměstí -Capuchin Square
Baroque Capuchin crypt
On Petrov Hill- Katedrála sv. Petra a Pavla -Cathedral of St Peter and Paul
Zelný trh -The Vegetable Market-nicknamed Zelňák
Dietrichsteinský palác-Today it houses Moravské zemské muzeum (the Moravian Museum)
Biskupský dvůr -The Bishop’s Courtyard
Holy Trinity Column

Malý Špalíček- Little Chap

Stará radnice -The Old Town Hall
Famous portal
Legendary crocodile and fabled wheel.
Náměstí Svobody -Freedom Square- nicknamed Svoboďák
was first mentioned in records from the 13th century
Hodinový stroj -Clock Machine

The most controversial installation is the monument made of black granite: a clock from which small marbles fall out every day at 11 a.m. it is a commemoration of the heroic defence of the city against the Swedish army during the Thirty Years’ War.
The early Baroque plague column from 1689 is a reminder of plague outbreaks in Brno.
Česká Street
Bata department store
Moravské náměstí -Moravian Square
Nejvyšší správní soud - Supreme Administrative Court of the Czech Republic.
Statue of justice
Kostel svatého Tomáše - Church of St. Thomas
Odvaha –Courage statue is a tribute to Jobst of Moravia
Jakubská Street
Cukrarna 7 hrichu- patisserie that belongs to 7 HŘÍCHŮ café & gin bar-Seven sins
Kostel sv. Jakuba -Church of St James
Masarykova Street
Dům pánů z Lipé
Kostel svaté Maří Magdaleny-The Church of St Mary Magdalene
Sculpture of three crowing roosters. It is a reminder of the pub called U Tří kohoutů (The Three Roosters) that was here at the end of the 18th century.
And that's it. A few hours spent in Brno were enough just for the first impression of the city. Visits to Telč, Prague and Český Krumlov, three years ago, and this short stay in Brno, are just a small part of this beautiful country we certainly want to explore better. Friendly and hospitable people have further strengthened that decision. We will be back once, surely.
