Bye-Bye 2009!

*Previous year had finally ended, and I am glad. It was one of hardest years. Mostly I was ill. Last three months I was on four different antibiotics. So, I entered the New Year with new antibiotics and one more sore throat. Thankfully this is not a dangerous illness, but I am totally exhausted. I lost some weight, and that is not good. Now I hope that the new antibiotic will stop bacterial infection. I try to eat better and rest more.
*I did not sew much in previous year. But writing this blog and taking photos of finished garments helped me a lot. Thanks to those photos, I noticed every mistake I have made, and realized that I have to make some changes in my style. Photos are cruel more than mirrors.
*I have many plans in new year. With better health and little luck I hope I'll realize them all. I plan to crochet and sew more, walk to the beach more, swim and enjoy the sun. I have some plans for selling my jewelry, bags and other stuff I make. A lot of plans, but I will go step by step. (I have to show you one dress I have finished last year, but I am not capable for photo shooting, yet.)
*Since I started blogging in June last year, I feel really welcome in this sewing-blogging world. So, I want to thank you dear readers for your support and comments. I did not leave a lot of comments on other blogs (This is a matter of my knowledge of English), but I read them all, and I admire your skills. One of my New Year decisions is to hang out with you more.
Wish you wonderful, healthy, happy 2010!

Roll-collar one-piece dress

The second project from Japanese sewing book-Simple chic- is finished.
Like the title say the dress has roll collar, pattern is easy and basic.
There is an invisible zipper at the back. The fabric is wool blend. I added lining, even it is not supposed for this dress.
What to say about this dress? It is basic shift dress, simple pattern. It looks much better on sewing form in the book than on me.LOL
Maybe the chosen fabric is problem, or my body shape is problem. Maybe the shift dress is not my style. My husband says that the dress is just appropriate for nuns. Hmm. I tried to fix that "nun look" with belt. I'm not sure: is it better?
I will sew this dress again because I love this pattern. I hope that it will look much better with different fabric.

Embroidery lessons

Past days I took few embroidery lessons.Well, I know basics, but this were lessons about embroidery that is used for embellishing national costumes from Dubrovacko Primorje -a region situated northwest of the city Dubrovnik.
I haven't pictures of costumes, just few photos of scarves.
Made by  very talented  lady Nike.
The scarves were worn for weddings.
This scarf is over hundred years, old.
This embroidery patterns were used for decorating vests.

All stitches are basic embroidery stitches.Specific is only way of using them, and combination of colors. There are lots of colors, gold threads and sequins. Everything I love.
No, I will not sew national costume.I used everything I learned on my way.
I made this dark blue tote bag and embellished it with specific embroidery pattern. The bag is dark blue because the costumes are dark blue.
The second bag is creamy beige, like wedding scarf, with colorful flowers and gold sequins.
And that's it, my modest way to preserve national treasure.
Unfortunately only four of us were attended those lessons, even they were free.
It seems young people do not care for tradition, at all.
That is such a pity.

A Shirt-blouse

The plan was to sew this blouse. But, as usual, I did not have enough fabric. So, another option was the blouse that I made two years ago. ( Burda-9-2007) The pattern is basic, easy to sew, and I think trendy this year again.
Then I used satin and I haven't made any change.
This time I used georgette.
I made some modifications to the sleeves. Elastic at the wrists-Burda propose, was not a good solution for me. In this version I used elastic thread - 5 lines-I think this is much better.
No, I will not sew this blouse again.
Two times was enough for this pattern.
Since earrings are my passion, I made a matching pair. They look much better at the day light.
Just for the record: I have a "real" jewelry but I wear only bijouterie and jewelry I made. Don't know why.

A T-shirt top

Finished one more top!
This one has been reviewed so many times;so I have not much to write about.
Fabric is cotton jersey-my favorite as you can see.
Pattern is from Burda 2/2009 model 108.I made A version with long sleeves.
It is so easy to sew,basic...
And most important-perfect for colorful busy prints that I like.
After reading all reviews I haven't made recommended alterations.
Just cut and sew. :)
And, yes, I'll sew it again.

Wrap-over top

I finished what was planned for this week.
I am slowly getting back to the sewing mood. The wrap-over top is completed. (Burda- 10-2008-119)
Fabric is cotton jersey, so there was no need for zipper.
Alternations? O-yes! I sew the left side overlapping to the right. Why? Well, the pattern is so simple and very easy to sew; so I wasn't concentrated, at all. I didn't pay attention. I realized mistake at the end, when the top was finished.
It is not too bad. I like it, even it is not perfect.
Only, I hope I will not look like "101 Dalmatians" in it. (Probably like only one of Dalmatians. LOL)

Life is good!

*I 'm much better today. I made a deal with Gail to split our curves. LOL
No matter, flat or curved the point is that we are unique. That is the beauty.:)
*My dear friend 3FUN made this elegant Etsy treasury with my Black roses-necklace.
*I plan to sew this top.
*Life is good!

Curvy skirt - disaster

Yesterday I sewed something after a long time. And, result is disaster.I read review of this skirt.
It seemed to me this skirt is just what I need. It is quite simple to sew.
I bought gray microfiber for it ,made all alternations I need , inserted an invisible zipper to the back, lined the skirt ...
It is almost finished. Just have to sew hem by hand.
I made a skirt technically good.
But....
While reading all those reviews I ignored this sentence: "This is designed for a curvy hourglass figure ... think Joan from the series Mad Men." Hello, you are not Joan, what were you thinking?
Skirt looks disastrous on me.No curves , no hourglass figure,no butt,no flattering shaping.Only flat board - dressed in skirt.
No, I am not going to show you this disaster. It is too painful for me.
Even my husband and son  viciously commented on my appearance.
I need some time to recover.LOL

Etsy treasury

My Orange leaf earrings were featured in this Etsy treasury.
It was created by stockannette.
Theme was Etsy sellers from different countries. This was from Korea,Iceland,Croatia and Kuwait.
I like that concept .And I love the mixture of the green and orange.
